Stuart Honenberger, CFP®
Stuart Honenberger, originally from Orange, Virginia, has called Williamsburg home since 2002. He is a graduate of the College of William & Mary, where he majored in religious studies and minored in economics. Stuart began his career at Legg Mason in 2005. He spent four years with Legg Mason and Smith Barney before co-founding Compass Wealth Strategies in 2009. He established Cornerstone Wealth in January 2017.
As a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professional, Stuart has a deep knowledge of and admiration for the advisory approach to wealth management and is committed to serving as a fiduciary for every client.
He thoroughly enjoys being with his clients, building individualized wealth plans, structuring portfolios, and leading the tremendous team at Cornerstone.
Stuart; his wife, Elizabeth; and their three children, Alice Louise, Shirley, and Clark, love living close to his alma mater in the City of Williamsburg. He is active in his church and loves attending sporting and cultural events at William & Mary.
Stuart’s enthusiasm for his community is highlighted by his board involvement. He is a past president of the board for An Occasion for the Arts and has also served on the boards of the Williamsburg Symphony Orchestra and Order of the White Jacket (a W&M alumni scholarship organization).
After 11 years and 3 firms, Stuart decided to establish Cornerstone as a place that provides clients and team members with an atmosphere dedicated to excellence and accessibility. He believes that the financial services industry, and the investment community in particular, is often overconfident and prideful. As a result, it tends to look down upon those looking for help as less capable or unintelligent. This creates a power dynamic that does not foster a collaborative advisor client relationship. Stuart’s convictions lead him to serve his clients, not lord knowledge over them.
Stuart chose the name Cornerstone for the firm because it communicates the necessity of planning, as well as the humility of it. Cornerstone’s services are not meant to be flashy or dazzling; instead, they are intended to create significant impact and provide substantial value to clients. The goal of Cornerstone is to support the future its clients desire through proactive planning and communication. Stuart welcomes the opportunity to have a no-obligation discussion about a client’s needs and Cornerstone’s services.
